Description: Despite the vast number of books and articles on Napoleon and the Empire that have been written over the last two hundred years, there is virtually no aspect of European history during this period that does not cry out for further research. During the last decade or so, research has moved away from the traditional limits placed on the Napoleonic era by diplomatic and military history, but progress has been slow and much remains to be done. The possibilities for future research suggested here not only point to a number of lacunas in the historiography, but also encourage researchers to apply recent historical methodologies, and to transcend the traditional timeframe (1800-15) to incorporate the French Revolution and even the Restoration.
